Flashback News

February 18, 2010

Well, the three band performance we hinted at in an earlier posting has materialized. On March 13, Flashback is partnering with The Adams Family and Geezer for an evening of friends, music and dancing. No cover. No admission fee. Just show up ready to enjoy yourself. Notos will offer an appetizer menu and beverages for sale. Help us celebrate the coming end of winter by joining us for this special event.

2010 is off to a rousing start. We had a great time down at the Wayland Hotel. And the February 6 party at Noto's was too much fun. We made a bunch of new friends and we're looking forward to seeing them again at future Flashback events.

Don't forget about the Flashback edition of the WFGR/Glendevon dinner-dance series coming up on March 27, 2010. And be on the lookout for a special performance in early March. Flashback will be partnering with two other great West Michigan bands for an evening of classic rock/hits. We'll have the details for that on this website within the next week or so.

The summer is really starting to fill up and promises to be a whole lotta fun. Check back here often.

Holiday parties are winding down, and we're getting ready for another Michigan winter. Some good stuff coming up.

But first, we're always looking for ways to improve this website, and if you look around a little, you'll see that we've added photos and a video of the band. The video is made up of short clips from the Kansas concert, a performance at the Intersection in Grand Rapids and the 4th of July Celebration in Grandville this past summer.

We're really looking forward to our couple of weekends at the Wayland Hotel, Bar and Grill coming up in January. It will be our first time there, but we've heard great things about the place, and it promises to be a great time. Hope we'll see you there.

And we're pleased to announce that Flashback has been added to the WFGR/Glendevon dinner-dance series on March 27, 2010. A single ticket buys dinner and an evening of entertainment from Flashback and WFGR radio personalities. Keep that date open. We'll provide additional details as they become available.

Don't forget we'll be posting additional events on our calendar as they're scheduled, so check back from time to time for more opportunities to catch Flashback.

Well, I wouldn't normally include new songs as "news", but we're pretty excited about some new covers that we will be rolling out for the Kirby Grill weekend in November. They include a couple of Boz Scaggs classics (when's the last time you heard a Boz Scaggs song played live), Chain of Fools (Tina was born to sing this song), Long Train Running (Tom and Dave lifted the live version after attending the Doobies concert in GR this past summer}, and Jesse's Girl, an 80s classic. Come on out to Kirby in Grand Haven November 13 and 14 and hear all those and many more.

We're playing private parties in December, so most of you won't be able to catch us that month. But we'll be back in January playing for the first time at the Wayland Hotel, Bar and Grill in Wayland, Michigan (where else?). We're there two weekends, and Wayland is just a short drive south of GR, so make sure you come on out to see us.

We'll be posting additional events on our calendar as they're scheduled, so check back from time to time for more opportunities to catch Flashback.

It was a great summer. Plenty of beautiful, cool weather, and a fun, productive season for Flashback. We made a bunch of new friends at several new venues.

Some interesting things coming up this fall. We'll be at the Forest Hills Central Community Tailgate on October 2. And look for Flashback to return to the Kirby Grill in November. December is filling up quickly with Holiday parties. A few other things in the works for this fall, so check back for announcements.

Flashback is taking a short break while some members take their summer vacations with family. We'll be back in August with two interesting events. On August 22 we'll be at the Kirby Grill in Grand Haven. Grand Haven in August - should be a big crowd and a fun time.

Then, on August 29, Flashback is participating in a benefit for the Wounded Warrior Project. It will be held at the DeltaPlex/Club 131 in Walker. We'll be sharing the stage with good friends from Cover Story, OTC and several other West Michigan bands. Come on out for a day of great music and a good cause. Stay tuned for details.

The BIG NEWS today is that Flashback has been chosen to be one of the opening bands for the Kansas concert on Saturday, June 6 at Fifth Third Park. Its a free concert (pay for parking only). The doors will open at 4:30. Many thanks to those who voted at the WLAV website for Flashback. Come out and see Flashback and Kansas, among others, on the 6th.

And if you're on our e-mail list, you already know that Flashback will perform at the Intersection in Grand Rapids this Friday, May 29, 2009. Flashback will start at 8:00. Following Flashback will be Slippery When Wet, a Bon Jovi tribute band. It'll be a great night for 70s and 80s music fans.

Don't forget to come out and See Flashback on Thursday, June 18 in Lake Odessa. It's going to be a beautiful night.

And if you like to plan ahead a little, Flashback will be joining Family Tradition in a pre-fire works concert in Grandville, Michigan on July 4. Also, Flashback has agreed to perform at the BOB on July 11 and The Kirby Grill in Grand Haven on August 22. Stay tuned for further details on these performances.

Thanks to all those who came out to Founder's on April 26 to benefit ACCESS West Michigan. Almost $2,500 was raised to feed the hungry in West Michigan, and those who attended were treated to several sets of great classic rock by Raz Tyger, The Honeytones, Flashback and Mid Life Crisis. We've already asked John Sinkevics, who organized the event, to sign us up for the next one.

If you live east of Grand Rapids, you're going to get a great chance to catch Flashback on Thursday, June 18, 2009. We're pleased to announce that we've been added to Lake Odessa's "Rock the Port" Summer Concert Series. We'll start at about 7:00. We've consulted with NOAA, and have learned that June 18 is expected to be one of the more beautiful evenings this summer, so do don't miss it.

If you live in the Kalamazoo area, look for Flashback on May 9, 2009 at Indian Run Golf Club. We're playing a benefit for Paramount Charter Academy on May 9, 2009. This will be our first time playing in the Kalamazoo area, and we're looking forward to it. It promises to be a fun evening for a worthwhile cause. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance for $20.00.

We're pleased to announce that Flashback has been selected to play this year's Black and Blue Ball in West Michigan. Its an MDA benefit with plenty of community and media support. It's one of West Michigan's best parties every year, with many activities, lots of friendly people, and this year, Flashback. That event is May 15, 2009. Contact a band member or e-mail Flashback for ticket information.

And just a reminder to mark your calendar for April 26, 2009. Flashback will be joining the Honeytones, Mid Life Crisis and Ras Tyger in a benefit for Access, an organization dedicated to ending hunger in West Michigan. That event will take place at Founder's Brewery in downtown Grand Rapids beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Don't forget to check the Calendar page on the Flashback website for additional upcoming Flashback dates. Among other things, we're back at TJ's in Lowell April 24 and 25 and we'll be playing in Ada on May 16 for that community's Council of the Arts Festival.

2009 kicked off well for Flashback. With fun, successful performances at the BOB in GR and The Kirby Grill in Grand Haven in January, and multiple offers arriving for other 2009 weekends, this is shaping up to be a great year for the band. Check back with the Flashback website often for additional performance dates.

Flashback has two upcoming events that warrant special mention. Flashback will be playing at Watermark Country Club for a Forest Hills Schools fundraiser on March 7. In addition to dancing to the music of Flashback, the organizers are planning several activities. Should be a fun night. Contact a band member or e-mail Flashback for ticket information.

Also, Flashback will share the stage with the Honeytones and Mid Life Crisis at Founders in downtown Grand Rapids on April 26 to benefit Access, whose mission includes fighting hunger in West Michigan. That should be a day filled with tons of great music and fun. Mark your calendar for that one too.

After many months of preparation, and a couple of bumps along the way, Flashback is accepting engagements for corporate parties, weddings and other special events. It would have been easier to throw together 40 simple songs to start playing out after a couple of months, but that approach never appealed to Flashback's members. We chose to take our time and do it right.

Even with that philosophy, Flashback found it impossible to completely avoid the stage over the past months. Already, Flashback was "drafted" to play several private parties, as well as a few public performances, including Cascade Township's 4th of July Celebration and a set at the Intersection in Grand Rapids to open for national recording artist Leon Russell.

Stay tuned. We're just getting started.
